This fall, the Department of Psychology is launching Queen鈥檚 Well100, a brand-new course designed to help students feel their best and make the most of their university experience.

Through engaging in interactive sessions, and practicing proven real-world strategies, you鈥檒l learn how things you do every day - like eating, sleeping, studying, and interacting with friends - can shape your mental wellness and explore strategies for managing stress and becoming more productive. Whether you're looking to build resilience, boost your focus, or just feel more balanced, Well100 is your chance to invest in yourself and your future.

Well100 kicks off in Fall 2025 with an initial enrolment of 100 students with plans to expand. 2024 Early Career Award winner Dr. Tim Salomons is the instructor, partnering with 2023 Teaching and Learning Excellence Award winner Dr. Jeremy Stewart on content development.

"We're aiming for a really practical course,鈥 says Dr. Salomons. 鈥淲e're going to introduce students to a lot of new practices and give them credit for trying them out. I think everyone is going to walk away equipped with a better understanding of how their actions affect how they feel, and a few new tricks they can use when they're feeling a lot of stress. This course will take a more proactive approach, focusing on things that anyone can do to live a happier and more productive life.鈥

The course was created thanks to the generosity of the Call Family Fund for Wellness.

鈥淲e are so pleased to support this new course through the Call Family Fund for Wellness,鈥 says Christel Call (BA鈥71), who established the fund with her husband Ron. 鈥淲e believe that wellbeing is key to academic and personal success during this challenging stage in a student鈥檚 life and hope it will provide tools to explore stress and resiliency through time at Queen鈥檚 and beyond.鈥

Drs. Salomons and Stewart have worked to recruit a diverse panel of contributing faculty experts from: the Department of Psychology, Department of Psychiatry, Public Health, School of Kinesiology and Health Studies, Employment Relations, School of Religion, Department of English Literature and Creative Writing, and Student Wellness Services. Preliminary topics will include stress management, study habits, mindfulness, cognitive coping, sleep, diet and exercise, effective communication, social media management, etc.

鈥淭he transition to post-secondary is a big one,鈥 says Dr. Meghan Norris, Undergraduate Chair, Department of Psychology. 鈥淪tudents are adapting to a new learning context and are also often navigating a transition to living away from familiar family, friends, and community. This is of course an important time, and we know that transitions and changes will continue to happen throughout the lifespan. We are thrilled to be offering this course which provides students with insight into the science of wellbeing, and practices to help individuals thrive. The knowledge and skills developed in course will benefit students now and well into the future.鈥

Well100 isn鈥檛 just another course; it鈥檚 a launchpad for personal growth and academic success. Whether you're navigating the transition to university life or simply looking to build habits that support your mental wellness, this course offers practical tools, expert guidance, and a supportive community. With limited spots available in its first year, now鈥檚 the time to take charge of your wellbeing and be part of something meaningful.
