John Nauright

I graduated with a PhD in history from Queen's in 1992 specializing in African history. Since then I have taught primarily in sports history in New Zealand, Australia, Denmark, England, Scotland, and the USA. Currently I am Director of the Academy of International Sport and Professor of Sport Management and Professor of History at George Mason University in Virginia. I am also Visiting Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill in Barbados. I have authored and edited 13 books in sports history and sports management including:

  • Long Run to Freedom: Sport, Cultures and Identities in South Africa;
  • Making Men: Rugby and Masculine Identity;
  • The Routledge Companion to Sports History
  • The New Sport Management Reader; and in February 2012:
  • Sports Around the World: History, Culture, Practice (4 volumes)
