Provided Mental Health Services

We provide students with 1-on-1 in-person and virtual appointments and group therapy that are confidential, judgement-free, and culturally responsive. All therapists are registered health care providers, which means students must be currently living in Ontario to book an appointment.

We use a short-term model of care that helps students handle personal difficulties and deal with urgent, distressing situations. These situations may include low mood, anxiety, adjustment, stress, managing distress and working through the impact of traumatic events, issues related to race, culture, sexuality, and identity. All staff undergo Positive Space and training and complete cultural competency and racial trauma training.

We work closely with partners in the Kingston community to help students who need specialized mental health services or longer-term support.

Booked Mental Health Therapy Appointments

We have a variety of mental health therapists working as part of our team. When students are booking an appointment, they can select from among therapists who have extensive expertise with cross-cultural issues, or are Black-identifying, LGBT2SQ+, Indigenous, or who have a focused practice working with students who have experienced sexual violence.

Some of our mental health therapists work in our main clinic and have some embedded within various faculties and/or departments including:

  • Commerce
  • Faculty of Arts & Science
  • School of Medicine: MD Program and PGME
  • Self-Identifying Indigenous/4 Directions
  • Students Living in Residence
  • Varsity Athletics

If students are unsure what type of service is most suitable for them, they can book a mental health triage appointment that can help identify the most suitable support pathway and provider.

Same-Day Mental Health Therapy Clinic

Students can come and meet with a mental health therapist to address mental health concerns; no appointments are needed. Upon arrival, students will be given an approximate wait time for the next available psychotherapist. Any follow-up care will be determined during the appointment.

Therapy Groups

Groups are a great way for students to gain skills that can help keep them mentally strong. While the idea of groups may seem intimidating at first, they allow for personal growth and learning in a safe space and can often be more effective than one-on-one appointments.
